Edgar Wood Academy will operate a slightly longer day from Monday to Wednesday so that students will be able to use the academy’s facilities to extend their study and participate in compulsory enrichment opportunities. The school will be open from 8am for breakfast and all students will be expected to be on site by 8.30am at the latest, ready for the school day to start at 8.40am. The official finish time for lessons will be 3.45pm with an hour of enrichment from Monday to Wednesday. On Thursday and Friday, the official finish time will be 2.45pm, with centralised detentions and intervention, and homework clubs for targeted students only. The library will be open until 4pm each day for pupils to access resources and IT facilities.
Below is an example of a typical year 7 student timetable
- Lessons will last one hour and will be structured over a weekly timetable.
- 25 hours per week will be allocated to the subject-based curriculum.
- In addition to lessons, there will be a daily 20-minute tutorial/assembly in the morning, and a further 15-minute tutor time in the afternoon. The planned tutor programme will include a guided reading programme, as well as time for discussion and debate based on topical and cultural issues
- From Monday to Wednesday students can elect into a module as part of the Altus Enrichment Programme from 2.45 – 3.45pm. They will be expected to attend 2 out of 3 sessions. Below are some examples of the enrichment activities we will offer at Edgar Wood Academy.
