On Monday 3rd March, Edgar Wood Academy welcomed over 40 professionals to our first whole-Academy Careers Fair.

We had representatives from further and higher education and industries including creative and cultural, sport, policing, health, transport, science and technology, teaching, social care, engineering, construction, and services.

Students were able to chat to professionals and learn about a variety of sectors and career pathways along with the range of educational and apprenticeship routes open to them beyond GCSE studies at 16 and even after further education at 18. These interactions are key to supporting our students develop the skills, knowledge and awareness that will help them achieve their aspirations.

Our students really enjoyed the event with many coming back after school to make the most of this amazing opportunity, revisit professionals and continue conversations. Professionals were keen to feedback to us how impressed they were with student behaviour and engagement, commenting that the quality of questions asked was excellent. We are extremely proud of how students represented themselves and the Academy throughout the day.

During the afternoon we had the pleasure of welcoming pupils from Bowlee Primary School to attend the event. It was a privilege to meet so many polite, engaged and aspirational young people! The children were keen to meet professionals and learn about the options and opportunities available with one young person commenting that the best thing about the event was seeing what he could be when he was older and learning that with hard work you can be anything and achieve your dreams.

We would like to thank the amazing professionals who gave their time throughout the day to inspire and support students. Successful events are due to your ongoing commitment and willingness to share your knowledge and experience.
